My life
was completely "turned to sawdust" on a Summer's day in
1977 because of a newspaper advertisement: A company advertised
for foresters and lumberjacks, and my reply to the advertisement
had a decisive influence on my life.
I started
to work with trees, a work that has influenced my life ever
since. A lot of things had happened in my life before then -
much of it was probably a seeking for "something". Something
exciting. I did not want ever to get bored - which I have certainly
never been since!

As the
son of a blacksmith, I was born in Copenhagen. At that time
people moved around to find a work, and since my mother was
from the island of Fyn, well, my father began work at the shipyard
"Lindø", near Odense.
The family
moved around quite a number of times on Fyn, and finally we
settled in Næsby, where I passed my secondary school years.
End of school !!
Straight
after school I went to sea and sailed for about two years, then
moved to Israel where app. 1000 cows had to be milked every
day; I lived in Israel for 2 years.
After working
in different jobs, I started in arboriculture in 1977, and this
gave me a good insight into the amazing world of trees.

|
In 1987,
I started my own firm, and taught arboriculture. I have
arranged several courses in recreational tree climbing, and
in the summer of ´95 I took part in Seqouia Tour 95 Sierra Nevada
together with my friend Lars Nørholm.
On the
tour we climbed the world's 5th biggest Redwood Tree.

The
"red yarn" - the main interests of my life,
has been and always will be creativity, drawing, illustration,
caricature, or modelling in clay.
No matter
whether it be selling paintings in Bersheba, drawing ships in
Arbijan or cutting heavy-weight sculptures for someone living
nearby in Trunderup.
Experienced
in working with a chain saw, I perfected a routine that makes
working with heavy trunks an exciting and challenging task.

|
My works
are often quite expressive and naturalistic, depending on
the shape and colour of the wood.
Elm is
my preferred material when doing woodcrafts as it often surprises
with its very beautiful red heart, with many exciting shades,
and very distinct knots. Furthermore it's very durable, and
- a grand tree for climbing!
Big sculptures
- frequently of 12-14 tonnes each, need space, and patient neighbours.
Therefore I do most of my work back home at Egelund - our old
farmhouse built in 1802, where all of us - Karen, Lea, Neel
- and myself, have been modernising the old farmhouse for the
last 28 years.
